Shia muslim people dressed in black commemorate the martyrdom anniversary of imam Hussain and his companions on the day of ashura. Some people use a special green cloth and a head band for their infants to memorize of Imam Hussain’s six-month-old son who was also killed and beheaded on Ashura day.

Although each year the media have been tried to show self-flagellation ritual with knives or swords is a routine actions among Shia muslims, but self-flagellation is forbidden in Islam and the great Shia scholars have prohibited such a fabricated tradition. In addition such violent actions are not allowed by law in Iran
